Policy Brief: Investment Policy Perspective in ASEAN

Southeast Asia, known regionally as ASEAN, continues to act as a magnet for international direct investment and increasingly for intra-regional investment. With the union of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, ASEAN’s prospects for attracting FDI are likely to be good despite a cyclical downturn in global flows. AEC can offer a large and dynamic region with a growing middle class and a generally welcoming attitude towards inward investment when it is seen to contribute to exports or other strategic objectives.
